Gallbladder removal (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) is a common, minimally invasive procedure to remove a gallbladder that is causing pain, inflammation, gallstone complications, or other disease.

Fasting (NPO): Do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your surgery.
Medications: Continue taking heart or blood pressure medications with a small sip of water on the morning of surgery unless directed otherwise. Pause blood thinners as advised during your consult.
Prep Wash: Shower with chlorhexidine (CHG) soap the night before and the morning of procedure.
This is typically and outpatient procedure — you will go home the same day.
Diet: Start with light, low-fat foods. You may gradually resume a normal diet as tolerated, though greasy or very heavy meals should be limited for the first 1–2 weeks.
Activity & Lifting: No heavy lifting over 15-20 lbs for 2 to 4 weeks. Walking is encouraged immediately.
Wound Care & Showering: You may shower 24 hours after surgery. Pat the incision sites dry; do not submerge in baths or pools for 2 weeks. Steristrips may be removed after they loosen in 7-10 days.
